If any ferial Office be observed in the week following Trinity Sunday, the Collect at such ferial Office shall be that of the First Sunday after Pentecost, as follows :

Oremus.
Deus, in te sperántium fortitúdo, adésto propítius invocatiónibus nostris : et quia sine te nihil potest mortális infírmitas, præsta auxílium grátiæ tuæ ; ut in exsequéndis mandátis tuis, et voluntáte tibi et actióne placeámus.  Per Dóminum.

O God, the strength of all them that put their trust in thee, mercifully accept our prayers, and because through the weakness of our mortal nature we can do no good thing without thee, grant us the help of thy grace, that in keeping of thy commandments we may please thee, both in will and deed.  Through.

The Lesson is taken from

Porro fílii Heli, fílii Bélial, nesciéntes Dóminum neque offícium sacerdótum ad pópulum, sed quicúmque immolásset víctimam, veniébat puer sacerdótis, dum coqueréntur carnes, et habébat fuscínulam tridéntem in manu sua et mittébat eam in lebétem vel in caldáriam aut in ollam sive in cácabum, et omne, quod levábat fuscínula tollébat sacérdos sibi.  Sic faciébant univérso Israéli veniéntium in Silo.

Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the Lord.  And the priest's custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand; and he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.

V.  Tu autem, Dómine, miserére nobis.
R.  Deo grátias.

V.  But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.

R.  Peccávi super númerum arénæ maris, et multiplicáta sunt peccáta mea : et non sum dignus vidére altitúdinem cæli præ multitúdine iniquitátis meæ : quóniam irritávi iram tuam, * Et malum coram te feci.

Etiam, ántequam adolérent ádipem, veniébat puer sacerdótis et dicébat immolánti : Da mihi carnem, ut coquam sacerdóti ; non enim accípiam a te carnem coctam sed crudam.  Dicebátque illi ímmolans : Incendátur primum juxta morem hódie adeps, et tolle tibi quantumcúmque desíderat ánima tua.  Qui respóndens ajébat ei : Nequáquam ; nunc enim dabis, alióquin tollam vi.  Erat ergo peccátum puerórum grande nimis coram Dómino, quia retrahébant hómines a sacrifício Dómini.

Also before they burnt the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw.  And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.  Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the Lord: for men abhorred the offering of the Lord.

R.  Exaudísti, Dómine, oratiónem servi tui, ut ædificárem templum nómini tuo : * Bénedic et sanctífica domum istam in sempitérnum, Deus Israël.
V.  Dómine, qui custódis pactum cum servis tuis, qui ámbulant coram te in toto corde suo.
R.  Bénedic et sanctífica domum istam in sempitérnum, Deus Israël.

R.  O Lord, thou who hast had respect unto the prayer of thy servant, that he should build a temple to thy Name, *  O Lord the God of Israel, bless and sanctify this thy House for ever.
V.  O Lord, thou who keepest Covenant with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart.

Proper Third Lesson

Sámuel autem ministrábat ante fáciem Dómini, puer accínctus ephod líneo.  Et túnicam parvam faciébat ei mater sua, quam afferébat statútis diébus ascéndens cum viro suo ut immoláret hóstiam solémnem.  Et benedíxit Heli Elcanæ et uxóri ejus dixítque ei : Reddat tibi Dóminus semen de mulíere hac, pro fænore, quod commodásti Dómino.  Et abiérunt in locum suum.  Visitávit ergo Dóminus Annam, et concépit et péperit tres fílios et duas filias.  Et magnificátus est puer Sámuel apud Dóminum.

But Samuel ministered before the Lord, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.  Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.  And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The Lord give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the Lord. And they went unto their own home.  And the Lord visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the Lord.

R.  Audi, Dómine, hymnum et oratiónem, quam servus tuus orat coram te hódie, ut sint óculi tui apérti, et aures tuæ inténtæ, * Super domum istam die ac nocte.

The Office of Matins ends after the Third Respond.  The Te Deum is not said, and Lauds normally follows immediately, beginning with the Opening Versicles.  Otherwise, the Conclusion of Matins is read, according to the Rubrics.
