Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.  The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.  And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.  And the sons of Javan; Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.  By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.  And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan.

R.  Ædificávit Noë altáre Dómino, ófferens super illud holocáustum : odoratúsque est Dóminus odórem suavitátis, et benedíxit ei, dicens : * Créscite, et multiplicámini, et repléte terram.
V. Ecce ego státuam pactum meum vobíscum, et cum sémine vestro post vos.

R.  Noah builded an altar unto the Lord, and offered burnt offerings thereon : and the Lord smelled a sweet savour, and blessed him, saying : *  Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth.

Erat autem terra labii uníus, et sermónum eorúmdem.  Cumque proficisceréntur de Oriénte, invenérunt campum in terra Sénnaar, et habitavérunt in eo.  Dixítque alter ad próximum suum : Veníte, faciámus láteres, et coquámus eos igni.  Habuerúntque láteres pro saxis, et bitúmen pro cæménto : et dixérunt : Veníte, faciámus nobis civitátem, et turrim cujus culmen pertíngat ad cælum : et celebrémus nomen nostrum ántequam dividámur in univérsas terras.

And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.  And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.  And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.  And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

V.  Tu autem, Dómine, miserére nobis.
R.  Deo grátias.

V.  But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.

R.  Ponam arcum meum in núbibus cæli, dixit Dóminus ad Noë : * Et recordábor fœderis mei, quod pépigi tecum.
V.  Cumque obdúxero núbibus cælum, apparébit arcus meus in núbibus.
R.  Et recordábor fœderis mei, quod pépigi tecum.

R.  The Lord said unto Noah : I do set my bow in the clouds of heaven, * And I will remember the Covenant betwixt God and man.
V.  And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the heaven, that my bow shall be seen in the cloud.
R.  And I will remember the Covenant betwixt God and man.

In Feastdays of Simple rank :

Proper Third Lesson

Descéndit autem Dóminus ut vidéret civitátem et turrim, quam ædificábant fílii Adam.  Et dixit : Ecce, unus est pópulus, et unum lábium ómnibus : cœperúntque hoc fácere, nec desístent a cogitatiónibus suis, donec eas ópere cómpleant.  Veníte ígitur, descendámus, et confundámus ibi linguam eórum, ut non áudiat unusquísque vocem próximi sui.  Atque ita divísit eos Dóminus ex illo loco in univérsas terras, et cessavérunt ædificáre civitátem. 

And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.  And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.  Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.  So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

R.  Per memetípsum jurávi, dicit Dóminus, non adjíciam ultra aquas dilúvii super terram : pacti mei recordábor * Ut non perdam aquis dilúvii omnem carnem.
V.  Arcum meum ponam in núbibus, et erit signum fœderis inter me et inter terram.
R.  Ut non perdam aquis dilúvii omnem carnem.
V.  Glória Patri, et Fílio, et Spirítui Sancto.

R.  By myself have I sworn, saith the Lord, that I will not again bring the flood of destruction upon the whole earth ; for I will remember my Covenant : * And the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
V.  I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a Covenant betwixt me and the earth.

The Office of Matins ends after the Third Respond.  The Te Deum is not said, and Lauds normally follows immediately, beginning with the Opening Versicles.  Otherwise, the Conclusion of Matins is read, according to the Rubrics.
