Recordátus autem Deus Noë, cunctarúmque animántium, et ómnium jumentórum, quæ erant cum eo in arca, addúxit  spíritum super terram, et imminútæ sunt aquæ.  Et clausi sunt fontes abyssi, et cataráctæ cæli : et prohíbitæ sunt plúviæ de cælo.  Reversæque aquæ de terra eúntes et redeúntes : et cœpérunt mínui post centum quinquagínta dies.  Requievítque arca mense séptimo, vigésimo séptimo die mensis super montes Arméniæ.

And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters assuaged; the fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained; and the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.  And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.

V.  Tu autem, Dómine, miserére nobis.

V.  But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.

R.  Ædificávit Noë altáre Dómino, ófferens super illud holocáustum : odoratúsque est Dóminus odórem suavitátis, et benedíxit ei, dicens : * Créscite, et multiplicámini, et repléte terram.
V. Ecce ego státuam pactum meum vobíscum, et cum sémine vestro post vos.

R.  Noah builded an altar unto the Lord, and offered burnt offerings thereon : and the Lord smelled a sweet savour, and blessed him, saying : *  Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth.
V.  Behold, I establish my Covenant with you, and with your seed after you.
R.  Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth.

At vero aquæ ibant, et decrescébant usque ad décimum mensem : décimo enim mense, prima die mensis, apparuérunt cacúmina móntium.  Cumque transíssent quadragínta dies, apériens Noë fenéstram arcæ, quam fécerat, dimísit corvum : qui egrediebátur et non revertebátur donec siccaréntur aquæ super terram.  Emísit quoque colúmbam post eum, ut vidéret si jam cessássent aquæ super fáciem terræ.  Quæ cum non invenísset ubi requiésceret pes ejus, revérsa est ad eum in arcam.

And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.  And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made: and he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth.  Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground; but the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.

R.  Ponam arcum meum in núbibus cæli, dixit Dóminus ad Noë : * Et recordábor fœderis mei, quod pépigi tecum.
V.  Cumque obdúxero núbibus cælum, apparébit arcus meus in núbibus.
R.  Et recordábor fœderis mei, quod pépigi tecum.

R.  The Lord said unto Noah : I do set my bow in the clouds of heaven, * And I will remember the Covenant betwixt God and man.
V.  And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the heaven, that my bow shall be seen in the cloud.
R.  And I will remember the Covenant betwixt God and man.

In Feastdays of Simple rank :

V.  Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.

Proper Third Lesson

Expectátis autem ultra septem diébus áliis, rursum dimísit colúmbam ex arca.  At illa venit ad eum ad vésperam, portans ramum olívæ viréntibus fóliis in ore suo.  Intelléxit ergo Noë quod cessássent aquæ super terram.  Expectavítque nihilóminus septem álios dies : et emísit colúmbam, quæ non est revérsa ultra ad eum.  Igitur sexcentésimo primo anno, primo mense, prima die mensis imminútæ sunt aquæ super terram. 

And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark; and the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.  And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him any more.  And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.

R.  Per memetípsum jurávi, dicit Dóminus, non adjíciam ultra aquas dilúvii super terram : pacti mei recordábor * Ut non perdam aquis dilúvii omnem carnem.
V.  Arcum meum ponam in núbibus, et erit signum fœderis inter me et inter terram.
R.  Ut non perdam aquis dilúvii omnem carnem.
V.  Glória Patri, et Fílio, et Spirítui Sancto.
R.  Ut non perdam aquis dilúvii omnem carnem.

R.  By myself have I sworn, saith the Lord, that I will not again bring the flood of destruction upon the whole earth ; for I will remember my Covenant : * And the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
V.  I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a Covenant betwixt me and the earth.
R.  And the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
V.  Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.

The Office of Matins ends after the Third Respond.  The Te Deum is not said, and Lauds normally follows immediately, beginning with the Opening Versicles.  Otherwise, the Conclusion of Matins is read, according to the Rubrics.
