Et tu, Israël, serve meus, Jacob quem elégi, semen Abraham amíci mei : in quo apprehéndi te ab extrémis terræ, et a longínquis ejus vocávi te, et dixi tibi : Servus meus es tu, elégi te, et non abjéci te.  Ne tímeas, quia ego tecum sum : ne declínes, quia ego Deus tuus :  confortávi te, et auxiliátus sum tibi, et suscépit te déxtera justi mei.

But thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend.  Thou whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the chief men thereof, and said unto thee, Thou art my servant; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away.  Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

V.  Tu autem, Dómine, miserére nobis.

V.  But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.

R.  Blow ye the trumpet in Sion, call together the nations, tell it out among the people, and say : * Behold, God our Saviour cometh.

Ecce confundéntur et erubéscent omnes, qui pugnant advérsum te : erunt quasi non sint, et períbunt viri, qui contradícunt tibi.  Quæres eos, et non invénies, viros rebélles tuos : erunt quasi non sint, et véluti consúmptio hómines bellántes advérsum te.  Quia ego Dóminus Deus tuus apprehéndens manum tuam, dicénsque tibi : Ne tímeas, ego adjúvi te.

Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish.  Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that conténded with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.  For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.

R.  Non auferétur sceptrum de Juda, et dux de fémore ejus, donec véniat qui mitténdus est : * Et ipse erit exspectátio Géntium.

R.  The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor the law-giver from his loins, until he cometh that shall be sent * And unto him shall be the longing of the Gentiles.
V.  His eyes shall be brighter than wine, and his teeth whiter than milk.

Noli timére, vermis Jacob, qui mórtui estis ex Israël :  ego auxiliátus sum tibi, dicit Dóminus : et Redémptor tuus Sanctus Israël.  Ego pósui te quasi plaustrum tritúrans novum, habens rostra serrántia : triturábis montes, et commínues : et colles quasi púlverem pones.  Ventilábis eos, et ventus tollet, et turbo dispérget eos : et tu exsultábis in Dómino, in Sancto Israël lætáberis.

Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the Lord, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.  Behold, I will make thee a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff.  Thou shalt fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them: and thou shalt rejoice in the Lord, and shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel.

R.  Me opórtet minui, illum autem créscere : qui autem post me venit, ante me factus est : * Cujus non sum dignus corrígiam calceamentórum sólvere.

The Office of Matins ends after the Third Respond.  The Te Deum is not said, and Lauds normally follows immediately, beginning with the Opening Versicles.  Otherwise, the Conclusion of Matins is read, according to the Rubrics.

Ad Bened. Ant:  Dicit Dóminus : * Pœniténtiam ágite : appropinquávit enim regnum cælórum, allelúja.

Ant. on Bened:  Thus saith the Lord your God : * Repent ye and turn again, because the kingdom of heaven is nigh at hand, alleluia.

The above Antiphon is not said if this day falls on December 21, in which case the following Antiphon is said instead:

Ad Bened. Ant:  Nolíte timére : * quinta enim die véniet ad vos Dóminus noster.

Ant. on Bened:  Be not afraid, * for upon the fifth day our Lord shall come to you.

If this day falls on December 23, ie. the last day before Christmas Eve, the following Antiphon is said:

Ad Bened. Ant:  Ecce compléta sunt * ómnia, quæ dicta sunt per Angelum de Vírgine María.

Ant. on Bened:  Behold, all things are fulfilled, * which were spoken by the Angel of the Virgin Mary.
