Et
apprehéndent septem mulíeres virum unum in die illa, dicéntes : Panem
nostrum comedémus, et vestiméntis nostris operiémur : tantúmmodo invocétur
nomen tuum super nos, aufer oppróbrium nostrum. In die illa erit germen
Dómini in magnificéntia, et glória, et fructus terræ
sublímis, et exsultátio his, qui salváti fúerint de Israël.
Et erit : Omnis qui relíctus fúerit in Sion, et resíduus in Jerúsalem,
sanctus vocábitur, omnis qui scriptus est in vita in Jerúsalem. |
And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man,
saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us
be called by thy name, to take away our reproach. In that day shall
the branch of the Lord be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the
earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel.
And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, and he that
remaineth in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even every one that is
written among the living in Jerusalem. |

Receive the Word, O Virgin Mary, which is
sent thee by the Angel from the Lord ; thou shalt conceive and bring forth
him who is God and Man, * And thou
shalt be called blessed among all women.

Thou a Maiden undefiled shalt bear for
us the Holy Child ; this grace is given alone to thee, a Virgin and Mother
both to be.

Cantábo dilécto meo
cánticum patruélis mei víneæ
suæ :
Vínea facta est dilécto meo in cornu fílio ólei. Et sepívit eam, et
lápides elégit ex illa, et plantávit eam eléctam, et
ædificávit
turrem in médio ejus, et tórcular
exstrúxit in ea : et exspectávit ut fáceret uvas, et fecit labrúscas.
Nunc ergo, habitatóres Jerúsalem, et viri Juda, judicáte inter me et
víneam meam. Quid est quod débui ultra fácere víneæ
meæ,
et non feci ei? An quod exspectávi, ut fáceret uvas, et fecit labrúscas? |
Now will I sing to my wellbeloved a song of my beloved
touching his vineyard. My wellbeloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful
hill: and he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted
it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also
made a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes,
and it brought forth wild grapes. And now, O inhabitants of
Jerusalem, and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my
vineyard. What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have
not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth
grapes, brought it forth wild grapes? |

Aspiciébam in visu noctis, et ecce in núbibus cæli

ætérna, quæ non auferétur : et regnum ejus,
quod non corrumpétur.

I saw in the night visions, and behold, one
like the Son of Man came with the clouds of heaven ; and there was given
him dominion and glory and a kingdom,
* That all peoples and nations and languages
should serve him.

His dominion is an everlasting dominion
which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be
destroyed.

Et nunc osténdam vobis
quid ego fáciam víneæ
meæ :
áuferam sepem ejus, et erit in direptiónem : díruam macériam ejus, et erit
in conculcatiónem. Et ponam eam desértam : non putábitur, et non fodiétur.
Et ascéndent vepres et spinæ
; et núbibus mandábo ne pluant super eam imbrem. Vínea enim Dómini
exercítuum domus Israël
est : et vir Juda germen ejus delectábile : et exspectávi ut fáceret
judícium, et ecce iníquitas : et justítiam, et ecce clamor. |
And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my
vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up;
and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down: and I will
lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged; but there shall come up
briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain
upon it. For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of
Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for
judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry. |

R. The Angel
Gabriel was sent to Mary, a Virgin espoused to Joseph, to bring unto her
the Word ; and when the Virgin saw the light she was troubled till the
Angel said : Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found favour with God. *
Behold thou shalt conceive and bring forth a Son, and he shall be called
the Son of the Highest.
V.
The Lord God shall give unto him the
throne of his father David ; and he shall reign over the house of Jacob
for ever.
R. Behold thou shalt conceive
and bring forth a Son, and he shall be called the Son of the Highest.
