Launch of New Breviary Website
April, 2009

From the beginning of Lent until the Easter Octave of 2009, the Confraternity of Ss. Peter & Paul has provided a free preview of its upcoming new website www.breviary.mobi.  The purpose of this website is to expand on our existing site by permitting anyone with a desire to pray the Divine Office to do so without any pre-existing knowledge of the rubrics of the Roman Breviary.

Instead of the constant barrage of options linking the reader to the different parts of the daily Office (options which require at least some basic knowledge of the workings of the Breviary), our new website will offer the Hours of the Breviary for each day in an easy-to-read format, with all the text following on a single page which is read from beginning to end.  Rubrics are kept to an absolute minimum, to make it easier for those unfamiliar with the Breviary to pray rather than constantly be making decisions on what to pray next.

FREE PREVIEW OF BREVIARY MOBILE

The new format also makes the Breviary instantly available on many new technological devices, such as Blackberries, iPhones, and other Internet-accessible phones and devices.  We provide instructions on how to create a Breviary Mobile web application for the iPhone.

Because of the large amount of additional work involved each day in assembling the daily Hours in this simplified format, a nominal subscription fee of US $2.50 per month will be assessed.  Or you can save money by paying for a whole year in advance—this works out to only $2.00 per month.  For your convenience, these payments are debited automatically each month (or year) from your credit card, so once you're signed up, your access to our site will be uninterrupted.  If you prefer, we also accept cash, checks, and money orders, that will allow you access to our member pages until your subscription runs out.  It is important to note that our original website at www.breviary.net will continue to be maintained in its current format and will remain free of charge.  Only the new easy-to-read rubric-free pages will be restricted to paid subscribers.  The decision whether to upgrade to the paid service is yours.

Their limited subscription will remain in effect as long as their membership dues are current.

As always, we value the suggestions of our members. Please contact us at provost@breviary.net if you can think of any other ways we can include to make our new service more efficient and useful.
